Here in the UK, the White Company sell cashmere storage bags for storing cashmere (or other) sweaters. I have found them effective as far as sweaters go.

Re: Fortnum and Mason
I have long held the view that the time to visit Fortnum and Mason is in early January, from around the 5th, after most of the Christmas/New Year tourists have left London. The shop significantly reduces the price of some Christmas decorations. Some years ago I bought a £500 box of crackers for £125...

Re: Looking forward to winter
My only comment is that is one hell of a classy overcoat, which I am sure will bring many years of pleasure. Many congratulations.
In my opinion, the buttons are completely appropriate.

Re: Harris Tweed
Many years ago I had a holiday on Harris and purchased a suit length of tweed from a local croft recommended to me. I duly had a suit made up and actually the trousers were not too rough on the skin so that was fine. What surprised me was that the trousers were not particularly hard wearing, particu...

Re: Dege & Skinner "Phitwell" - Gunclub recommendation neede
My recent experience of Dege has been very positive indeed. I wanted some slips putting in a couple of waistcoats I wear at weddings and Dege did it at a cost which was embarrassingly low. They also made me some shirts and I am delighted with them. Robert and the rest of the team could not have been...

Walked past the site this morning.
Still very much a building site and I was unable to see anything other than Drakes on the fascia above windows.

Re: Singapore Sling?
I lived in Singapore a few years ago.
I have to admit the tailoring experience was generally disappointing, but I did have some decent shirts made by CYC, which was based in Raffles Hotel. If I were passing through Singapore, I would be happy to use them again.

Re: Gieves & Hawkes closing concessions
Let us hope it is true. I have been very disappointed with the quality of product in Gieves & Hawkes stores in recent years and now avoid going into any of their shops. Prices have remained high but quality has just got lower and lower. It seems to me to be a brand relying on its past and uncertain ...

Re: Should the London Lounge be on Facebook?
I am at a loss to understand why this would be an advantage. I am committed to not joining any social networking site (I joined one once and have regretted it ever since) and personally have no interest whatsoever in London Lounge being on Facebook. Please can someone explain to me what is wrong wit...

Perhaps there are some alternative options. As always, it all depends on budgets. 1. Being slim and 6 foot, you will probably be able to find quality second hand evening tails in good to excellent condition, if you conduct a search. This might represent a significant saving on an item which in truth...

Re: Prince Charles: same shoes?
Well, I am not sure I completely agree. I realise I have a pair of Church brown brogues which to the best of my knowledge I purchased from the factory shop (I believe they were seconds) in about 1983. I tend to wear them at weekends. Twenty six years on, they still have their original sole and are a...

Re: RTW in London
If I were you, I would wait for the inevitable sales to start in December. That is not so far away. Sales used to start in January but in a poor retailing environment they will start earlier. I would then go to somewhere where you feel comfortable, such as Ede and Ravenscroft, and buy a suit at a mu...

Re: A winter blazer
Personally I would go for a heavy flannel. It is easy to wear and comforting in a cold winter. We all know flannnel cannot take extended heavy wear, but coats take considerably less of a battering than trousers. My flannel blazer looks good after several years of regular,if intermittent, wear. Re: Stiff Collar Cleaning
One option would be to contact Shrewton Laundry in Wiltshire. They are extremely helpful.
They still launder stiff collars. I suspect this is largely due to the number of army camps in the vicinity.

Re: New Year's In London
I confess it would not be my favourite time of year to be in London. However, you may be surprised by the number of shops open as it is 'sale' time in London. I would expect the shops to shut early on New Year's Eve. Some of the larger shops may even open on New Year's Day. Last year, between Christ...
