Re: Train travel
Its only on a handful of services, but the Pullman dining car was recently reintroduced on the London - Penzance route: http://www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/your-journey/on-board/pullman a write up can be found here from the aforementioned Mr Portillo: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/lifestyle/10263846/Pul...

Re: Venice and Milan
The restaurant upstairs at Harry's bar is a bit of a tourist trap (well-dressed Americans diligently obeying the Preppy handbook when I last visited) but it is unique and the food and service is really very good. The Art Biennale must be on your list (maybe not so much the GB pavilion this year!) an...

Re: Edinburgh
Restaurant Martin Wishart (the restaurant on the Shore in Leith rather than the brasserie in town).
The tasting menu is fantastic, the lunchtime menu du jour is fantastic value. Probably my favourite restaurant in the world.
A visually stunning city to visit - hope the weather is good for you!

Re: Buying cloth
This may not be entirely the right answer, but the weavers behind J&J Minnis quite often have a limited number of cloths on sale. Their delivery Charges are very reasonable:

Presumably their London office would hold Swatch Books?

Re: Stylish slim wallets
I remember hearing a famous musician discussing how, during the 1980s, he and most of his contemporaries would carry money and personal effects in their shoes (to avoid spoiling the line of their trousers). This is more of a dilemma with unpleated / Italian cut trousers, but for the same reason I tr...

Re: Style in Politics
I've posted a link to this picture of Trudeau and his trademark red rose before. It would be unimaginable for a politician for a policitian to wear a buttonhole today - how have things changed so much in a single generation? http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_iPL6ug80d0o/RxYPspyer1I/AAAAAAAAAAc/i5AipqTmqZU/s...

Re: Prince William's Wedding Attire
After all of the hand-wringing over whether the Prime Minister would wear morning dress, I was pleasantly suprised Mr Cameron chose to wear a double breasted waistcoat (at a guess, RTW from Gieves & Hawkes) rather than the morning dress worn by the leader of the Labour Party. Good to see a number of...

Re: Proper Trousers
Some Mark Stephen Marengo's RTW trousers have daks side tabs and buttons for braces - they normally only sell them as part of a suit but may be able to sell you a separate pair of trousers.

Re: The King's Speech
The 'shirtsleeves' still is to show the small, informal room the speech was broadcast from. The film then depicts the King replacing his jacket for this photograph to be taken - which was, presumably, presented to the public as a depiction of the broadcast. Guy Pearce was miscast as Edward VIII (as ...

Re: Only 50 Years
This is an interesting feature on how the position has changed in Canada. Notwithstanding the sentiment, is bad formalwear better or worse than no formalwear?

Re: Barristers' shirts
With the exchange rate between AUD and GBP as it is at the moment, TM Lewin have a small range of quite high quality tunic shirts available online (google: TM Lewin Tunic Shirt). For stiff/wing collars try Stanley Ley, who has a very good selection online.
