Re: NJS is going to love this!
Zeitgeist - There is also lot of recreactional porn, easily found on the internet; along with a whole load of other nastiness. You are the kind of obnoxious troll which has, often, put me (and better men than me for-bye), off coming to this site. Why not just: take a bath; dress as well as ye can -...

Re: NJS is going to love this!
Davidhuh, Thank you for your well-considered reply. As I mentioned in my original post I feel that the problem is the extremely poor implementation of the policy - imagine if the tax were only applied to McDonald's! :D Passive smoking really does seem to be the bete noir of some members here. A lot ...

Re: NJS is going to love this!
I am disappointed in some of the slightly... overheated comments in this thread. Consider that the Danes have an excellent public health system in which everyone is paid a decent European wage, state health insurance for all (that pays for a significant proportion of those that opt for private healt...

Slightly late to the party, and I really do not wish to be cast as that spelling guy, but it is just ''shot''.

Re: Things you wish you knew on first visit with Tailor
As a general strategy, it's good to put yourself in a position where you want exactly what your tailor wants to give you. If the tailor has a distinct house style, make certain that it's the style that appeals most to you. Be honest with yourself. We're all aware of the new bride who is deeply in l...

Re: Is it really Savile Row bespoke suits made in UK? Or China?
It is nice to read something grounded in reality once in a while, as opposed to long-winded rambling justifications on why one must be happy to pay additional for 'tradition', inflated store rentals, and to maintain the lifestyles of men who 'traditionally' did not lead said lifestyles.

This thread has helped me appreciate my tailor just that little bit more. Thank you, gentlemen.

IMO, I do not see why cream or faint blue pinstripes are so objectionable, or so difficult to match, or 'memorable', for that matter.

Re: Trousers for all seasons and climates
Thanks for sharing, kolecho.
I was actually planning/thinking of doing that with my shirtings before I sent them off for CMT as I have been frustrated with sleeve lengths slowly marching up my arms despite sponging by my tailor. Good to know that someone else has done so, and successfully as well.

Re: Genial tailors vs sour boutique staff...
I think what you have there is an unfortunate anecdote of racial sterotyping, rather than a flat out indictment of how snooty 'brand name' boutique staff are. This is probably only made more likely by the, uh, social milieu that is Hong Kong high society. On the other hand, it is worthwhile (I think...

Re: Lining a blazer with cotton/linen shirting
I would be concerned with the lining catching on my clothing, a problem that may be exacerbated by a light outer shell fabric.

Re: A study in lapels
One thing that I have noticed about the Japanese examples above is that the front buttons on 2 of them strike me as being too big, and consequently a little obtrusive. This may or may not have something to do with the responsible tailor using 'standard' 32/30L front buttons on tailored clothes for m...

Re: A study in lapels
Thankyou Zeitgeist. What opinion do you, or anyone else, hold regarding width of peaked lapels on SB jackets? For peak lapel SBs, I find that a width just over half the distance to the shoulder is most pleasing to my eye. Especially abominable IMO are the extremely narrow peak lapels that pop up oc...

Re: "Tightness"
The key is to say that tailors should not be dressing you in the first place. That is something you will need to do for yourself. Tailors should be making clothes for you, clothes specified according to the style you wish, the one that is yours (not necessarily his or hers.) And from this statement...

Re: A study in lapels
Thankyou for the critique. I will admit that the two-button jacket amongst these four suits seems more attractive, probably for the reason you mention about having a bit more vest showing, and a less "stubby" lapel. What width of lapel would you consider optimal; halfway between shoulder and medial...
