Re: Interesting White Tie

You may find the first iteration of White Tie was a military uniform; the brass buttons are suggestive of that. Then does that mean if I use gold button studs on my waistcoat it makes it military uniform? I cannot see anything else intergrated into the bodycoat and trousers to suggest it is mess dr...

Go for black in the first instance. M-B can be saved for a later one.

Re: A Bespoke under Construction at Benson & Clegg (and Some

I would have the sleeves a tad longer, say 1/4" to 1/2".

Re: Opera pumps

Yes, one of my friends told me the tails were a tad too long. I am going to get another one that has shorter tails but at a later date (I'm currently skint at the moment).

Re: Opera pumps

We of the London Lounge tend to be traditionalists,I as much as anyone. We long for aesthetic and social order and thus we cultivate these as best we can in style and manner. Yet, I wonder if there are some items of dress, very few admittedly (and God forbid the stroller not one of them),that are be...

Re: Opera pumps

The more ancient form of court shoes had buckles and this kind is still used today for court dress. The bows, of course, could be fixed with a buckle, or clasped with a jewel. Actually, if you want to wear buckles you need another pair as the bow cannot be detached unless you cut the thing off. Als...

Opera pumps

I have written a blog post on my experiences with obtaining opera pumps which may be of interest to those wishing to go down the RTW/MTO route:

Re: Strollers gone - why?

I sometimes wear black lounge when going to a meeting in the Metrop although sometimes I prefer morning dress as currently my black lounge jacket is rather rubbish and I'm currently looking for a replacement to it.

I have several pairs of dress gloves from them. Lemon chamois, grey suede and beige buckskin. http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/14657_198052362062_688147062_3633353_5649087_n.jpg http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/76601_449000107062_688147062_6076738_7123934_n.jpg http://a8....

Re: Sources for Silk Velvet

Hanfu can be modernised but it is the way one does it that is the big question. Modernise as in developing it for modern use or modenise as in Westernising it. if you think how the Japanese have developed their dress it should be followed on that similar thread otherwise it will become something irr...

Re: Sources for Silk Velvet

My local fabric store stocks 100% silk velvet (it is very soft and has a stretchy backing so it needs to be backed otherwise it moves about too much to manipulate).

Re: Barristers' shirts

You can get a bunch of white tunic shirts cheaply from Darcy's (previously, Vintage Shirt Co.). They are very good IMO (though you might need to shorten the sleeves a bit as they are made extra long). Afterwards, you could then start shopping for coloured ones once you get going. As for collars, Luk...
