John Irwing wrote a novel named Until I Find You couple of years ago. Tattoos and tattoo artist's are a theme in it. One of the characters is an organist who has Bach's and Händel's music tattooed all over him. That's a case where there's a deep personal meaning to tattoos.

radicaldog,
Thank you for good suggestions. I understand perfectly what you mean. I might have seen both of those somewhere. I think I'm beginning to see some features I want for my first tweed coat.

:) I'm not sure what do you mean to say, but I'm an admirer of 17th century. Who would surpass Rembrandt or Rubens in technique?! I Hope that prices in 25th century will not be in their sphere, though.

I wonder about Jeremy Irons outside the screen. He's not always Charles Ryder but not the worst of the stars, either.

Sirs, would it be another digression from the subject if we discuss the collar button as well? The third button must be practical but a collar button which you can see in tweed coats made for actual outdoor use certainly is. You can button up you coat up to your neck. Do you think it is proper only ...

ajoman, I didn't see any organic suitings at Scabal website. Nothing was labeled such and they have lots of collections there. I wouldn't be interested in 9 oz. anyway, double the weight and we would be talking. I wonder if they do bespoke weaving? I found that Dashing Tweeds seem to do those, even ...

ajoman,

I'm pleased to hear about your experience on starting to wear suits. I have yet to arrive there but I think I will go trough similar sentiments. I am anxious to get started.

Thank you for your attention to the topic. I try to answer some of the concerns below. It might prove lengthy, so bear with me. 1. radicaldog: Granted, it's a trade-off. We all live on the expense of other creatures. I don't lose my sleep over silk worms, either. There are other varieties of silk th...

Dear Costi, Thank you for your suggestions. Einstein's approach has it's appeal but it does seem a little bit bleak. It's like a monk's habit, always the same. Although, if you consider the suit as frame, then you could add the variety with shirts, ties, hats etc. which are generally less expensive....

On Tweeds, Ethics & Sustainability

I post a new topic here regarding the issues I touched on in my previous post in Where to start. I have been quite obsessed with the possibility of a gentleman's wardrobe in fabrics produced in a sustainable and ethical manner both ecologically and socially. I have come to consider the origins and t...

Thank you very much for your replies and and advice, gentlemen! I apologize for the confusing start and vague questions. I have been perusing posts enthusiastically here and learned a lot, found some answers to my questions. So with woollens as with shoes; not two days in a row. If I have one suit I...

Hello Christopher, I'm replying to your post nearly a year late but I wanted to say that ethics is important, in my view. Have you made research on it recently? I'm interested in sustainability in clothing. I'd like to build my wardrobe around organic fabrics, which seems just about possible nowaday...

Nice and informative. I liked the simple suggestions on fabric; wool flannel, tweed or linen. All in nice substantial weight. Simple and easy to remember. My eyes might pass...Is there any advise or literature on eye wear? I'm wearing plastic vintage frames but would like them in genuine horn with a...

Where to start?

Gentlemen, I'm new to the forum, matters of elegance and classic style despite my advanced age of a tad short of 40. How or why I all of a sudden turned into a fellow obsessed by such things as tweeds and shoe shining techniques is largely beyond me at this moment. If I should hazard a guess, I woul...
