Re: Finmeresco

I have a suit of it that's three years old. Gets a lot of use and has worn well. Wears a bit warm for me, so I've been stuff from Minnis, but I do love the hand and drape of the finmeresco.

Re: Bed Linen

I have a set of linen sheets from Linoto that I've been very pleased with. Have probably used the same set for 2/3 of the year for the past four years. Soft but very sturdy.

WW Chan can make a very nice, soft, draped coat in the A&S style.

Re: Tweed Odd Jacket Cloth & Details

No love for patch pockets? For a long time, I had wonderful black and white herringbone tweed jacket from Brooks Bros w/ welt breast and lower flapped patch pockets. Single vent, air force blue lining. I gave it away when I got a nice Breanish black and gray herringbone w/ three open patches and dou...

Re: Fresco Tousers

^Really? I think it would depend on what was behind it. But maybe I'm wrong. I just imagine, for example, that a white shirt underneath a dark fresco jacket would be more visible than under a light colored jacket.

Thanks again to everyone for your help.

Re: Fresco Tousers

Thanks a lot, guys. The roughness hasn't bothered me in fresco; it's just the transparency that concerns me. I have suits in Minnis, Smiths, and H&S fresco, all of them with minimally lined jackets, but w/ pants lined in the front. Our weather here is pretty temperate year-round, so I haven't felt t...

Re: Fresco Tousers

If anyone has an opinion on lining or not lining fresco trousers, I would really appreciate some assistance: I'm thinking of getting some pairs made from Minnis lighter offerings -- mid gray high twist (8-9 oz) and oxford gray two-ply (9-10 oz) -- and I lean toward trying them unlined for really hot...

Re: Unorthodox semi-casual shoes

Thank you, Concordia. So you're enjoying your pair?

dkst, I have a pair of LL Bean camp mocs from 1988, when they were made by Quoddy, I believe. They've held up very well over the years.

Re: Unorthodox semi-casual shoes

Hi Concordia and Bengal, I'm thinking of having some chukkas made in water buffalo and was wondering if you might have any thoughts to share. I like the look of the skin but am concerned about its long-term performance, since I have no experience w/ it. Any thoughts from others are more than welcome...

Re: The art of altering old garments and making them fit

A lot depends on how skilled your alterations tailor is and how much money you're willing to spend. It's best to start with things that fit you well. That said, some alterations are easy (on pants: hems and waist can be taken in or let out and the lower legs can be slimmed. On jackets, the sleeves c...

Marvelous photos. Thank you.

I just noticed the high suede boots he's wearing in several photos. Seems like he had them in a couple colors. Does anyone know why he enjoyed those?

Re: Deconstructed Italian style loafers for comfortable walk

I have a 23-yr-old pair of made in the US, LL Bean camp mocs (unlined) that are very comfortable for walking. Same goes for a cheap pair of lined Italian loafers, which are also moccasin-constructed. Whether or not the moccasin construction contributes to their walking comfort, I don't know. But for...
