La Scala dress code

Next month I will be seeing Il Barbiere di Siviglia at La Scala. It will be the second night of the run and my seats are fairly high up in the auditorium. I assume black tie is not required but I just wanted to make sure. Also Milan in July will obviously be a bit warm to say the least. I would love...

Re: My first bespoke shoes...

As always, thanks for your most helpful advice Costi. So you would agree that Loafers are acceptable to be worn with a Dinner Jacket in the UK? Black will be my colour because black can be worn more often, I don't own a single pair of brown shoes because I don't have any garments that would require...

Re: Rachmaninoff

Rachmaninoff, brilliant composer and superb pianist that he was, had a peculiar idiosyncrasy while living in America. No matter how much he was offered for a concert or recital at Carnegie Hall on any given Sunday, he flatly refused. The reason? Rachmaninoff didn't want to miss the Jack Benny radio...

Re: The beautiful soul

This is so true. This is in line I think with the poem recently posted here. It shouldn't be too much about the clothes but about the wearer. Elegance should be more than skin deep.

Michael, Thanks for your quick response. I'm new to the LL and I'm learning a lot. Keeping my fingers crossed regarding the photos! I hope etutee is well. I saw some discussion about turning his posts into a book. That's an excellent idea. If it was privately (vanity) published you might be able to...

Re: The semiotics of male coats buttoning

My Chinese friends tell me that, when learning to write as children, if they were left handed they were forced to write right-handed (and then smacked with a ruler for their less than elegant handwriting). Historically, Chinese was written with brush and ink, from top to bottom, right to left, and ...

Insider's Paris

I will be in Paris for four nights from Feb. 13th. I have never been before and am looking for suggestions beyond the obvious. From cheese shops to hidden attractions, what anything that is little known but a must see is what I am interested in. Also, how do Parisien me usally dress? I'm not asking ...

Deanna Durbin-Any woman who can sing Largo Al Factotum is worth a mention.
Not a picture, I can't seem to cut and paste on this forum, so I hope a link is ok.
