This isn't exactly what you're looking for, but you might have some use for it - the "Open End Scarf Tie" and "Open End Four-In-Hand Tie" from a 1920s Sears catalog.

Aesthetically, they share some similarities with a modern seven-fold.

For anyone who is a size 11-11 1/2 or thereabouts, an eBay seller is auctioning off deadstock patterned socks from the 1950s and 60s.

Several hundred pairs, apparently. Some of the patterns are pretty wild.

I see it occasionally, more often on raincoats or on casual car-coats or 'shirt-collar' style coats. In Ocean's Eleven , Andy Garcia's character wears one as the rival casino is being demolished - of course, it's set in Vegas, and the coat is ivory with satin peak lapels, so take from that what you ...

Bespoke/MTM in Melbourne?

I might be the only Melbournian on the board, but frequent visitors, expats and Sydneysiders are also welcome to reply. :D I'm hoping to explore my options for both MTM and bespoke in Melbourne - something not too outrageously priced, and ideally somewhere that will work with the ever-mounting swag ...

I have a pair of leather-and-canvas cap-toe oxfords from Grenson's Masterpiece line which are quite nice - probably not up to EG standards, but they were nice for the price. I'm not sure if they're available as standard from Grenson, but Paul Stuart should have them. Otherwise, Romano Martegani, thr...

Two-tone loafers, grosgrain ribbon belt, ascot, sunglasses... that's a fantastic look.

I'm going to make one or two modifications, and then steal that look for next summer.

A slip is basically sort of an "edging" done on a vest. It is sort of a decorative strip of cloth around the edges of a waistcoat. I had always guessed that the slip was, as the name might suggest, an extra slipover garment, like a sweater-vest. Now that I know that it isn't  , do you know ho...

Matching tie and pocket square is gauche, but what's the consensus on matching shirt and pocket square? :D Occasionally in the past, I've worn patterned shirt, contrasting pocket square in the suit breast pocket, and pocket square matching the shirt in the overcoat pocket. I think it works quite nic...

One of those hole-in-the-wall Hong Kong tailors, but quite a good one.

I'm sure I'll move up in the bespoke world eventually, but right now, they provide all the features I want...

Nick M, are yours Swiss? My herringbones and diamond weaves are a bit larger... so one does clearly see the weave. The cotton is... Italian, if I remember correctly. I had some shirts made up in the fabric, and the maker was nice enough to cut me some pocket squares gratis . Machine-sewn edge, but ...

We have mostly discussed pocket squares of solid colours (maybe with an edging) of linen or cotton, and printed silks, but what is the general attitude towards pocket squares that are tone on tone? I have a few in ultrafine cotton and linen in white, pale blue, and pearl grey in herringbone, and di...

Excellent work, Etutee. I love the glimpse into the past these AA illustrations provide - the novel fabrics and cuts you so very rarely see these days.

Please, keep them coming whenever you're able...

I've only heard of the "Golden Section" with regards to Fibonacci numbers.

How does it apply to tailoring? Angles and ratios, I'm assuming, but how specifically?
