Re: Huntsman bespoke shirts
“Photographs of the garments themselves” are useless. The photos would need to show the garments being worn. And in my case, they would show only the particulars of fit that have not been addressed well either by the MTM or bespoke process as opposed to a well fitting shirt. And that would only ins...

Re: Huntsman bespoke shirts
This is why in the end I decided to change shirt maker and after I did the results could not have been greater! Smudger, an interesting story. Perhaps you could expand on the differences? Photographs of each finished garment would be even better... (As sometimes happens on these threads, we end up ...

Re: Huntsman bespoke shirts
Personally, I place far more emphasis on making sure I'm happy with the end product rather than worrying too much on whether something is truly bespoke, hand-sewn, etc. etc. I agree wholeheartedly. I have used Stephen Lachter for the last couple of years and his shirts are excellent. The fit is the...

Re: Experience with Norton & Sons
Smudger, I agree with your sentiments but, let's be honest, this is hardly new. I seem to remember that Richard James, for example, has a background not in tailoring or even fashion, but in photography. He has nevertheless built one of the best known bespoke houses on the Row. I can't comment on RJ'...

Re: The Myth of the Soft Shoulder
The coat Mr Alden is wearing in the above picture isn't bespoke - so hardly a helpful example!

Uppercase,
I find myself agreeing with almost everything you've said. Clear, well argued and well illustrated. Honesty and directness be praised!

Re: Button Flies
Zip every time as far I'm concerned. Less fiddly than buttons and, in my experience, usually a better drape.

Re: London Theater
DDM, I can heartily recommend Warhorse (New London Theatre) which is based on the novel by Michael Morpurgo. Speilburg is currently turning it into a film.

Re: Edward Green
EG's catalogue doesn't feature the 88 last so it seems you are correct. Out of interest, what are the characteristics of the 88?They use the EG 88 but they are the only ones using the EG 88 I believe.

Fosters told me that although EG make their RTW line, they are made using Fosters' own lasts. Is this untrue?

Re: Edward Green
I often get this snobbish attitude when I enter that shop, regardless of how much you spend You are correct that the staff who worked in store previously (a gent in his 50s and a lady probably ten years younger) were often a little haughty, although I must say this never bothered me unduly. At leas...

Re: Edward Green
My mistake - Jermyn Street of course! The service was lacklustre at best. There were two youngish gentlemen working there who I have not previously met, and one of them in particular was in full sales mode for the whole time I was in store. Unfortunately, he seemed to know very little about shoes, w...

Well, it was a nice touch by Martin Broughton (the chap on the right) to wear red (the Liverpool FC colours). He's a Chelsea fan (they wear blue)!

I visited EG on Savile Row today for the first time in a while and noticed some 'changes'. I wondered if other members had any insight into recent developments? To elaborate, they seem to have increased their prices by around 10%: I found nothing in the shop for less than 600 GBP. They have also int...

Re: A few maintenance questions
1. For shoes, only when necessary (for quality footwear, it is expensive and can take several months because they have to be sent back to the factory, so no sense overdoing it). Generally, this means when the soles wear through or the stitching deteriorates to such a degree that water starts to get ...
