Re: SIC Tess shirting fabric in London
Exactly the looms at S I C Tess looms are modern industrial looms, but run at a low speed and using very fine raw materials, as such the cloths as good as anything produced in this manner. The Riva & Bonfanti cloths are mad on 19th century shuttle looms, and thus run much slower still, and further t...

Re: SIC Tess shirting fabric in London
All S I C Tess cloths are excellent in my opinion. I am only aware of them being produced in 150cm width, and having been to mill a few times would be surprised if they produced a 90cm production at another site. As such you would need only between 1.8m per shirt to 2.5m per shirt dependent on your ...

Re: Groves & Lindley Cloth?
I have used their cloths a great deal, I find them well set, balanced, and good to work with. They deserve a greater presence than they have, as the range they have whilst small is as good as all of and better than many of the other merchants.

I can confirm that I have used cloths from this producer, and they are categorically first rate, and nothing about the fibres used or production techniques are second rate. I would recommend any of their cloths.

Re: Bespoke maintenance and the significance of geography
Dear Sartorious, Regarding the last line of your post; "For a relationship in this context surely does involve frequent maintenance and upkeep, which I for one would expect to come as part of the price of the suit when first made." Could I confirm, that you would expect as part of the price of the p...

Re: Mohair Wool for DJ
I would consider using the Smith's Formal Wear bunch, or the Dormieul Mohair bunch, if you like more gloss on the mohair then the Harrisons Cape Kid would be worth considering.

Re: A winter blazer
I would suggest the Lesser's 16 oz, which is the best cloth at its weight that I have found, and has a very good blue serge. Harrisons, have a range of cloths at 18 oz, if you are looking for something heavier.

Re: Scabal Wain Shiell and Harrisons Velvets Comparison Help
For generally available velvets, the best in my opinion for the density of the pile, though it is not that thick, is Weldon and Rubans, which are made by the same manufacturer, but slightly differ in shade, they have a proportion of silk I believe about 20%. However you will need a very good tailor,...

The quality of the water is in the finishing of the cloth, which requires the softest water available, thus meaning less soaps and other solutions are required in order to finish it successfully, and thus it leaves a softer finish, and denser hand, because these abrasive solutions damage the surface...

Dear Edwin, For some garments I do, but for other garments I do not it very much depends on the nature of the garment I am cutting. Even in the garments that I do use these tools, I use them very differently to the way in which my previous colleagues used to use them, and they play a very minor role...
