Re: Cary Grant's suit design

Excellent, interesting thread! Grant was an expert at wearing clothes that were most flattering on Grant. We should do as he did and become experts at wearing clothes most flattering to ourselves, understanding that what was best for him might not be best for us. Nevertheless, there's lots to be lea...

Bespoke Shoes

Forgive me if this question is asked and answered elsewhere. Which English bespoke shoe outfit gives the greatest value for money? I have a pair of John Lobb Paris bespoke shoes (French, obviously) and they were very expensive when I bought them 10 years ago--roughly $3,000.00 then, I expect more tod...

Grenfell raincoats

Gentlemen, what do you know of the Grenfell brand? I understand they have set up in the UK again after a long absence, and from what I can glean from the internet have a product that looks promising. I'm bitterly disappointed with Burberry, which has completely slipped its moorings and become a fash...

The collar of Lord Grantham's tailcoat has a big gap. Very distracting.

Re: Original Dormeuil Tonik

Hi this is a new production of 1950's cloth. It has the same fell and touch
as the old cloth. Thanks.
So what does THAT mean?

I presumed that if the selvage said 1957 Tonik, that's what it would be.

Could someone please explain the "reissue" process?

Re: Original Dormeuil Tonik

Hectorm, please forgive my punctuation.

Thanks, that's what I thought. I just bought a length of the 1957 Tonik on Ebay in light/medium grey, but started getting cold feet wondering if this was something worth doing.

Cheers

Wool and linen blend

What are your experiences with wool and linen blends?

I'd like to have something with the look and feel of linen, but with a bit more crease resistance. Does this work?

Who makes the best of it?

Thanks,

Carl

Re: Gabardine puzzle

A light colored gab will reflect away heat, is smooth and cool to the touch, is disinclined to stick to you, and thin for its weight, so it won't provide much insulation. I suspect it would be fine for warm weather but not nearly as comfortable as linen or fresco.

Re: Wedding suit

I don't think you need the vest, but it's imperative that you wear your first and favorite bespoke suit! An old friend like that will put you in the best possible frame of mind for your wedding--more so even than something commissioned for the occasion. I'd focus my attention on a crisp white shirt,...
