DFR, It is interesting that you mentioned Gordon Yao because he is the HK tailor whom I was referring to in my previous posting. He is great to work with – listen to your requirements carefully but at the same time not afraid to offer his professional opinions. Recently, I brought one of his jackets...

To say all Hong Kong tailors are “bad” is similar to saying that all Italian bespoke tailors are good – definitely not the case. I used to have all my custom tailoring done in Italy. However, I have been using a Hong Kong custom tailor for a couple of years and I am very happy with the results. Like...

Care of Cotton Shirts
Chris, Dry cleaning is a very abrasive process; I would definitely not dry clean my cotton shirts. In fact, I dry clean my jackets not more than once a year. I spot clean if there is a stain but I air out my jacket after each wear and I have my dry cleaner steam and touch-up my jackets now and then....

It is hard to tell from the picture, the shirt collar could be higher than the ones currently available off-the-peg, however, try one first before going for custom-made. Here are some reasons. Do you normally wear a jacket with this shirt? In my case, I do and the jacket tends to "crush" the shirt c...

I totally agree with Alden: do not even try. If you have this problem with RTW jackets in general, you are one of those "unlucky" people who needs bespoke or MTM. BTW, don't let a salesman in brainwashing you in believing that the jacket length is right for you. I have seen so many people get duped ...

Shirt from pg 209 of "Dressing the Man"
Andrey, The shirt is a long-sleeve Camp Shirt. The collar is soft and when the top button loop is fastened, one cannot see the loop or the button as they are hidden under the collar. The rest of the buttons on the shirt are standard: no loops. When you order your shirt, you can individualize it to h...

Henry Poole visits to San Francisco
For any members who went through the whole bespoke process with Henry Poole in San Francisco, can you share your experience with me? For example: (1) How long did it take from 1st meeting to receiving the suit/jacket in the mail? (2) How many fittings did you go through/ (3) Any problems in between?...

Italian RTW/M2M
The tailoring of either Canali or Corneliani is definitely not as good as Brioni. If you want M2M Italian suits or jackets, a better value is to go with Belvest or Ravazzolo. They are less expensive and every bit as good as Brioni. But beyond tailoring, you should first consider which one fits you b...

Re-cutting a jacket
This is my first posting as a member. It is a pleasure to be part of the London Lounge and I look forward to learning from all of you. I have two cashmere jackets made a couple of years ago; unfortunately, these jackets are now approx one size too large. I am located in the San Francisco bay area. C...
