Re: Blazer style choices
I agree that gold buttons can stand out too much. Fortunately, they're easily replaced, so you could test exchanging them for horn versions and see if you prefer that look. I have a summer DB in hopsack (with horn buttons) that I use quite often. I got one of the last lengths of the Ultimate Blazer ...

Re: The ultimate polo coat
While we’re on the issue of pockets: I added a deep low inside pocket (below the inside breast ones) to keep my gloves in. Could be useful.

Re: when to wear a suit?
You should wear what you want, but of course it's difficult to be unaffected by your environment. There are limits to how much one can adapt to one's surroundings. I couldn't wear shorts and t-shirts in town just because others do. I would feel uncomfortable and that would hardly be stylish. Instead...

Re: The ultimate polo coat
Hi Jonathan, I had a similar dilemma a few years back when I got my polo coat in camel hair. I decided to go with peak lapels, albeit with the peak being fairly flat, primarily because I prefer this design. There are plenty of polo coats with peak lapels or with ulster collars. I agree that the feel...

Re: The history of large herringbone suitings
As in, what you would wear to a museum. That's exactly what I thought the meaning was. A nice venue to dress up a bit while still remaining fairly casual. Here are some nice examples of largish herringbones: FDR https://64.media.tumblr.com/3dbe120b74bebccfd2e8ef6fbc4f4e14/tumblr_mp2lx1Be7V1rf1jvro1...

Re: The history of large herringbone suitings
A largish herringbone suiting could be worn fairly casually (i.e. with roll necks, flannel shirts, denim shirts, polos or a white shirt and black knitted tie). It would even be suitable for many professional settings given the decline of formal dress codes. Larger PoW are quite common these days. A ...

Re: Wool/Silk/Linen fabrics
If an LL Linen isn't possible, what is second best? Most Irish linens seem to be plain with the exception perhaps of some made by Baird Mcnutt. The other patterned linen option that comes to mind is Solbiati. I have an overshirt from their cloth and it's softer, heavier and wrinkles less than the av...

Re: Wool/Silk/Linen fabrics
A real shame that it's no longer possible to get such linen. One can have wool summer jackets but there's no fabric quite like linen.
What has changed, the raw material or the way it's woven?

Re: Wool/Silk/Linen fabrics
Thanks for the tip, Michael. I like Cacciopoli's patterns, they managed to have quite a few checks and windowpanes in subdued, tasteful colours. I do not know their quality, so it's good to get your feedback. My linen jackets and suits are all plain so I'm in the market for something of this sort. I...

Re: Clint Eastwood's tweed
Close enough, I would be tempted to make a raglan if it were made in a chunky quality like Babbo or the 700g quality of the Agnelli glencheck (name?).

Re: Closing of Chester Jefferies
Perhaps they should have raised their prices. Perhaps, although the stated reason for closing is the inability to entice young people to learn the craft and the large number of employees retiring. Of course, higher pay may have convinced them. I wonder if they truly do trade sells like the website ...

Re: Reid & Taylor Bronze Eagle
This looks amazing Screamingmarlon! I love the variation in colour, particularly the orange threads. It makes this worsted far more versatile, interesting and easy to wear in many different contexts. While it may not be possible to recreate the weave, I wonder if something like this, with various co...

Re: Closing of Chester Jefferies
I just saw this post. Very sad indeed. I have two pairs of their gloves early last year I sent them my oldest pair for relining.
A real shame, they made super gloves at reasonable prices.
