Re: Dinner Suit
Yes, never let your other half opine on your sartorial decisions; she wouldn't care much for your unprompted critique on her appearance! That aside, are you expecting to wear your DJ regularly to events throughout the year? Pulling out the midnight blue DJ for the occasional outing would be quite da...

Re: Full Review - Richard Lim Tailor & Finished Summer Jacke
Having thought more about my original comment regarding the coat's fit and cut, the ease in the cut is fine (even if I think that a closer fit would compliment your physique better) but it could do with more three dimensional shaping in the chest and upper back especially around the shoulder blades....

Re: Full Review - Richard Lim Tailor & Finished Summer Jacke
Alex, do you know if there was much ironwork used during the construction of the coat by your tailor?

Re: Full Review - Richard Lim Tailor & Finished Summer Jacke
Sorry to be a dissenting voice but I find the cut and fit of the coat something one can get in RTW from Ralph Lauren or Brooks Brothers. The poster is young and athletic yet the coat seem to be cut with 'easy' measurements disguising his frame - perhaps this was deliberate but is not flattering. To ...

Re: Stroller suit-advice please!
Rodes, you are right in that the DJ is nowadays seen as the 'poshest' outfit by most of the general population with its influence extending beyond its original setting. It is an easy outfit for even the most self-conscious male to wear smartly and be at ease in. Mind you, I did find it odd wearing m...

Re: Stroller suit-advice please!
I'm naturally biased as I wore my morning coat for my wedding throughout the day, evening and night and it simply felt the right thing to wear. Yes, practically speaking, I'm not going to wear it other than at family and friends' wedding when requested to do so. I guess I find wearing a stroller for...

Re: Stroller suit-advice please!
Changing dresswear during the course of your wedding day sounds all too fussy to me. It is truly the bride's big day not yours (so much for sexual equality, eh?) and she will not thank you for years to come if you manage to draw the main attention away from her. Is there a particular reason for wish...

Re: John Kent Odd Coat
andreyb, I like it and think that it complements your build: the shoulder-line is not too square nor overly sloping, the chest is not too 'chesty' nor flat/tight and school-boyish and the waist is not too suppressed nor sack-like. But do you like the silhouette? From experience, I say don't let tail...

Re: Bespoke...the journey begins
You could try visiting Terry Haste at his eponymous firm (along with Messrs. Kent and Lachter) situated one road off Savile Row at New Burlington Street. He was the former cutter and MD at Huntsman and IIRC, his suit prices are very reasonable especially given his years of experience and reputation....

Re: Need Advice --- Most "Modern" Cut on the Row?
Sedwell is the most impressive and fastidious SR tailor that I ever used. In some ways, I'm tempted to say that you should go to three or four more well-known SR tailors beforehand and try Sedwell at the end to realise (like me) what the real deal is. Fighting words, I know!

Re: Need Advice --- Most "Modern" Cut on the Row?
Any skilled tailor should be able to make you a trim coat even if it were not his default cut. I suggest you look at or ask about the cut of the suggested SR houses such as chest swell (to the side or front?), shoulders (extended?, roped?), sleeves (piped or full?). If you were to choose a striped p...

Re: The Myth of the Soft Shoulder
Whether one silhouette is better than another can be debated ad infinitum without anyone being any wiser. Only by trial and error (unfortunately) does one discover his own style. By all means, order the soft, draped coats from A&S or Rubinacci but don't dismiss the lean, structured style of Huntsman...

Re: The Myth of the Soft Shoulder
I, too, have similar sloping shoulders and medtech_expat's silhouette is reminiscent of mine when I wear my softly padded coats. I agree with Mr. Alden regarding the collar height as my A&S coats with their higher collars accentuate my shoulder slope even further. Another point that I seem to notice...

Re: Linen suit - "reasonably priced tailor"
Without knowing what you consider reasonably priced but I would suggest Edwin deBoise (aka Steed) and his soft style. He has no problem using customer supplied cloths. Indeed, you can easily see a number of his garments made with LL cloths on various forums. He is a genuinely decent chap, listens to...

Re: POW Suit - which cloth?
Unfortunately, I threw out the Dugdale PoW swatch but my recollection was that I preferred the P&B because I thought the glencheck was a tad bolder and the houndstooth part of the pattern was coarser. I wanted the PoW suit to be sportier-looking to wear when days were more relaxed without serious me...
