Apologies for not posting this earlier, but having been informed that I made the first purchase at the PS Townhouse, I guess I can give a quick overview. First off, the location is far better for those who prefer to escape the Mag Mile Monotony, as turning onto Oak Street still exudes a sense of cal...

Apologies if this point has been made amidst some lengthy, well-thought posts which my eyes filled with slumber have scanned…but I believe the argument of etiquette wins. Even though the smoking ban has found many a hook to hang its nanny state hat, the fact remains that the product, the purchase, a...

Unfortunately the floor plan has been spoken for - a Circuit City/Best Buy have been slated to move in - thereby officially transforming the Mag Mile into a Mile-long Mall. Have you confirmed the new Oak St locale? Some of the PS gents were concerned it might not get the nod. Oak St. would then appe...

Agree that there are too many tunes... One might want to pick up Mark Steyn's American Songbook, a handy confidante or chum for those who enjoy "the rest of the story"... JAS

Sir, I will simply say that the zealots are out in full force here in the states. To go into any more detail would cause me undue stress. Enjoy your café smoke whilst you can!

Might I ask/suggest, for those who are so inclined, maybe a photo of a favourite pipe?

If you have some favourite patterned dress shirts which may have become worn over time – but not worn out! - cut the back into a 20” by 20” square. Then send it off to Sam Hober or any tailor who will trim and roll the edges for you. You will enjoy the 2nd life given to this part of your wardrobe. JAS

NJS - Let me preface this by stating that the documented (i.e. perceived) impact from the art/celebrity community (stage, screen, sport, etc) would win this tug of war. Even the LL chose GC over the DoW to grace the frontispiece. To better serve this topic, I believe there should be a distinction ma...

First off, and not to politicize the topic, but I prefer to use the term Global Pollution. Sometimes naming the cause and not the, still debated by folks smarter than I, effect seems wise. Insofar as what to wear, one can feel Quincy Magoo’s hyperopia taking over as city/country climes have blurred ...

Wasn’t this title also incorrectly translated/published as and the Man on the Boulevard ? I only mention this for those who may be new to the series and starting their search. Think the most prolific translator was Ellenbogen (sp?) but if someone is close to their library, please correct me if this ...

First of all the coat is stunning. Realizing you probably were leaning to interpreting instead of replicating the DoW, could you comment on your decision to forego the cuffed sleeves and the addition of front buttons? The DoW's stature has been discussed before but did this factor into your choice o...

I think many would welcome a selective time machine to place us in serene moments of history. I for one would have enjoyed the Churchill/Fleming/Niven banter at Boodle’s where fine cigars, cognac, and conversation must have flowed. The DoW photo is a sobering reminder of how many indulgences have be...

Correct. The batwing, unlike the butterfly, is cut straight and resembles an oar or a paddle. Believe WC’s polka dots were batwing but I might be mistaken. Charvet still uses this cut, as does Carrot & Gibbs. The extra fabric, which doesn’t seem like much initially, really makes a difference in the ...

It appears that this is (k)not only tied loosely but more importantly a batwing bow, giving the fat center. Hard to view the smoking jacket and appropriate cigar without subsequent ire for the current ban. JAS

Maybe I’ve missed this suggestion but when donning my overcoat with pocket, I simply move the square back and forth from the suit coat. Admittedly this is one of my personal jabs at the fast paced day. It forces me to pause and re-enjoy the process. I usually employ some form of reverse puff. If you...
