Hello Luk-cha, That's a bold jacket you have there! I think the structuring of shoulders is a personal choice, and this looks more relaxed with sloped shoulders. It looks best from the back. From the front, I wonder if the buttons and button holes should form a more vertical line - it looks pulled-a...

I agree Manton, I thought "gunmetal" too when I saw my suit. But the term seems to imply shiny to some parts of the media. Under brighter lights it is, well, brighter. Here's a contrast with some medium-dark grey pants: http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/3803/bluegreyvsgreyob0.jpg To Ed - great idea...

My grandmother would always say, "Worse things happen at sea."

It's as good an excuse as any to get worsted.

(sorry)

Postscript to this topic - my blue-grey (airforce blue, or a darker RAF blue) suit is complete. The colour blends into its surroundings, and depending on lighting and other colours around me can be bluish, medium grey, dark grey or navy. It contains some mohair, so sometimes it seems to have subtle ...

Luggage restrictions in Asia are not as draconian as in/out of UK or US, but they're getting tougher. KLIA (Kuala Lumpur international airport) is restricting liquids, aerosols and gels over 100ml except in rare (medical/baby) cases from April 1. These smaller containers must be in the usual transpa...

Thanks Etutee for another wonderful collection of sumptuous pictures and pearls of wisdom. I haven't seen the ideas of rough and smooth covered so well, and the various unusual outfits provide a great way of appreciating the loose boundaries of convention. I like the DB houndstooth most of all, alth...

There's some remarkable mass in this - 10 casual trousers. A month of underwear. I find I cannot have so many, lest my laundry pile up. I'd also need to build a hidden drawer to conceal the Imelda-Marcos tie collection lest my wife take it as approval for 85 pairs of shoes. I admire the restraint ar...

Is this Anson tailor the Anson Tailors in the basement of Hong Leong Building in Singapore, which was mentioned as a possible source for bespoke tailoring? Indeed, that's the one! Hong Leong Finance Building specifically, as I believe that firm has more than one building. If you saw a double-breast...

I am to expect that any tailor's products are not to everyone's expectations. I have limited experience, and while I love my tailor's work (Anson tailor, mentioned elsewhere) I don't expect everyone to agree. Sator, I've read your treatises on many subjects, and I can't help but be impressed (and ev...

Woah! It's definitely well-made. Seems impossible to categorize, although you call it a DJ. As a DJ, I presume it has vents to facilitate sitting down?

I like the silk treatment of the sleeve-end, I haven't seen that before.

Thank you RWS and Collarmelton! That all makes sense. My DB project will be an opportunity for me to act my age, and your esteemed advice even helps me to convince my wife that I should pursue a very nice cloth. I don't know if my tailor has those specific fabrics in stock or samples, however he has...

Thank you Concordia! I now have a much better idea of what I'm looking for. Googling also found much documentation of your appreciation for RAF Blue. I have tended to avoid blue in the past, and missed out on the subtleties. "Airforce Blue" seems to be a "few shades lighter than navy" colour. I am n...

Blue-grey inspiration

Hi LLers, I've now learned too much, and my expectations need a sanity check. I am looking for inspiration for a suit that would work for interviews. But I'm also interested in blue-grey, DB and peaked lapels. I need to prioritize my desires. Explanations of colour suggest that my "summer" complexio...

I think it's just the stereotype of a male model, which itself is extrapolated from the fashion-forward nature of the garment. Adam Ant wore shirts like this in the 80s, although those involved extreme fabrics, buttons and collars as well. There's a lot of imagination going on in this thread, perhap...
