Mention of poets recalls Auden's last poem:

He still loves life
but O O O O how he wishes
the Good Lord would take him.

Bach's Art of Fugue and Mozart's Requiem must also rate as impressive examples of elegant dying.

They have a shop in Rome too if that's any help - it has been mentioned on this forum before, but I'm sure I could search out the address if you can't find it.

There is nothing right [...] about the man.
I thought he was very much on the right?

Sorry.

It is used for MP's.
Well, for Privy Councillors. MPs who aren't PCs are 'honorable members'. And the majority of the titled nobility takes the appelation too.

Dear HS,

I think the word 'right' is used in the formulation to mean something like 'very' - thus a 'right honorouble gentleman' is supposed to be more noteworthy than an 'honourable gentleman'.

Best wishes,

If you're interested in physics, I think the particle accelerator at CERN (very near the airport) may still do public tours – but they have been scaling them down, and may have stopped now. You used to be able to see some quite impressive stuff.

Enjoy your trip,

I think in honesty it's just a dark grey overcoat...
Correction: dark blue.

If Sarkozy had worn a frock coat, it would have made the press as an excentricity - it is a garment of merely historical interest. Nice pictures though.

Best wishes,

I couldn't agree more.

From the press coverage in the UK she would seem to have generated a wave of Francophilia, which is a little ironic given her nationality.

Mrs Brown must have been so envious!

This is true - but it's the vacation at the moment. I shall enquire, and may be able to make some scans - the book data will be helpful - thank you very much for the reply!

Does it give much insight into the music?

Best wishes,
William.

Thanks for this!

I don't suppose you've read Nielsen's My Childhood? I've heard its a rather literary work, but have never been able to get hold of a translation...

I've never really been convinced by Rachmaninov. But Martinu's symphonies are wonderful, and I rate him very highly. They're actually pretty consistent too, though I think one can tell that between no.5 and no. 6 he fell off a balcony. Perhaps my initial contention was too contentious - probably a p...

But it would be a semi-correct inference. I'm intrigued, and if you'd care to tell more would be interested. I envy and admire anyone who can play to a professional standard. is there an order you'd recommend I approach them in? For what it's worth, I'd advise beginning with no. 3, and thereafter l...

Yes, the Blomstedt cycle is an impressive one. If you like the Overture to Maskarade you might well enjoy the 3rd Symphony (much less played on radio or in concert, though for no reason other than habit I think) - the recording by Chung with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra is really splendid, and ...
