Re: Tell me about melton...

Here's a question for you. Given the fairly flimsy cashmeres around (albeit widely available), would you be able to get the same effect as a heavier cloth by having an overcoat entirely self-lined? I know Harrisons has cashmeres of at least 18 oz wouldn't that be sufficient? Although I am "in" for ...

HE Box heavyweight cavalry twill..32 ozs.
Yes, Box twills go to 32 oz. (I actually got the "lighter" 20 oz twill as a lining for the 40 oz whipcord you commissioned) :D No winter worries here!

Great for pants too.

Re: Tell me about melton...

Hi Yachtie, The Harrisons of Edinburgh coating book has a 30 oz khaki melton for British Warm coats, 83929. Also, Hainsworth make such fabrics for the Canadian Army, in scarlet. Thanks Simon! Harrison's it is! I've seen the Abimelech/Hainsworth range and it's pretty coarse stuff. Box had previously...

I wonder who weaves that. H E Box's is in the high 'teens and comes in a variety of colors. The wife was eyeing some for winter skirt suits.

I just get key pockets in my jackets (small interior pocket within the jacket pockets). Same with the phone and b-berry.

Re: (Book) Image Matters for Men - your colors

http://dresswithstyle.com/2009/12/06/dress-yourself-with-style-choosing-colors/ Being closest to the face, the shirt is primary, but I still wouln't discount the overall tonality of the jacket. That said, it does bacome more of an exercise to coordinate an appropriately colored shirt with a jacket ...

Re: (Book) Image Matters for Men - your colors

While I find her treatment rather prescriptive, I do thin that her basic premise is spot on. An individual's coloration interacts with that of their clothing and therefore certain people look better(or worse) in certain colors/tones. It's not rocket science and I've seen (and made use of) that fact ...

Re: Fabric Houses

I would be interested to hear members views on Holland & Sherry in general. I have never comissioned from their offerings. They seem to be the favoured fabric house of the pretend bespoke mob - "Made to Measure suits from the finest English cloth from £500". Interestingly, my own tailor (SR) has ne...

700701 is not in the Scabal catalog online. If you have the right number, I can get a picture.

Re: Gabardine puzzle

It's more a Spring cloth. Like Will says , cool sunny days. It's too tightly woven to wear on really hot days (outside) unless in very light weights (and then you lose most of the advantages to it). As it's pretty much surface-interest-free, I've never seen the attraction of it for suits. Knockabout...

Re: Why I like to source my own cloth...

The cloth is Draper's "Panama Worsted" which is around 7 or 8 ounces. The "blueprint blue" ground is what caught my eye. The pencil stripes are actually two narrow crimson stripes separated by a thin white stripe. It tailored beautifully. If you look around on the fora I think you will see a photo ...

Re: Favourite cloth for odd trousers

For fall/winter trousers I like heavy venetian. it's a smooth cloth wears fairly cool for the weight. Moxon has some 750g stuff that's awesome. Yachtie That sounds great. Do you have any pictures? What colors do they have? Cheers Michael No pics, sorry. They have about 20 colors on the sample card ...

Re: Favourite cloth for odd trousers

I have just discovered that Holland & Sherry still have a 17oz cream flannel - a sample is on its way to me. Have members any experience of this cloth? It's clearly a bit much in the heat, but having commissioned a pair of translucent cream trousers in the past I'd rather err on the side of caution...
