It's good to learn that EG carries Gallo.

I'll drop in when next in London and take a look at their selection.

I can't find their website.....anybody have any idea?

I only found Gallo in Milano last year at their tiny store of Via Manzoni and was so enamored with their colors and patterns that I bought at least a dozen OTC socks.

After a year of pretty consistent wear, I can say that the socks hold up very well - no signs of undue wear or fading or the socks starting to fall or bag.

Gallo has fabulous colors, and I have regularly purchased their socks for my young son, in Perugia where they have a small shop. They are not particularly interested in marketing, and make some interesting things, like children's pajamas, robes, swimwear. Limited women;s goods, mens socks and ties. The colors of the children's socks are fascinating, but not suited in my opinion to the child's father.

I used to buy Pantherella, but I believe they were bought out, and cheapened. I used to get their birds eye patterns, the cloth is much thinner, cheaper, etc. That said,aI very good source of Pantherella at substantial discount is Sierra Trading -- on line -they sell them as close outs, but are representative of the range in retail stores like Herzfeld ("We never have a sale" Herzfeld, NYC) at about half price.

I would like to see LL cloth club commissions of socks.

Pantherella were owned by Burberry, which spun them off. They nearly went under but were bought by another sockmaker, HJ Hall, about 5 years ago.

My opinion is that there are many different Pantherella socks. Some are thin. Some are thick. They make a dizzying variety of socks, even more when done for other retailers. This weekend I wore a quite thick, soft wool birdseye in green and orange made for Budd. Today I am wearing a very thin but very comfortable pair in ribbed merino and silk. The few Gallo socks I've seen were indeed thick and looked comfy. Pantherella can do thick, if you can find it. What is mostly available in hellholes like NM is a limited range in dark colors and thin dress fabrics. However, their array is dizzying -- just see Kabbaz's site.

When I wore similar ones (also made for Budd) some years ago a young lady asked me if I was wearing a carpet!

For anyone who is a size 11-11 1/2 or thereabouts, an eBay seller is auctioning off deadstock patterned socks from the 1950s and 60s.
